first album and i have no idea how to do listening notes. i hope its supposed to just be whatever. im used to having rules or direction or something. not complaining just new to this. anyways. it was neat hearin the live intro. this is a live recording which was taped "at mister kellys." she does have a great voice. first song was nice. got me engaged. her voice really does have a wide range of textures and its super enthralling, almost hypnotic. the crowd is as quiet as me with how immersed they are in her voice. she has a way about her music that just keeps you thinking, or remembering. and im only two songs in. in willow weep for me it seems like there was a little physical skit? or someone just stumbled. crowd laughed. it seems she messed up slightly? i'll remember to listen to a studio version of this song, Willow Weep For Me. next song, just one of those things. more pep. bouncing my head. im reading her wiki, and i noted that in an interview she once said in a 1982 interview for the magazine Down Beat, "I don't know why people call me a jazz singer, though I guess people associate me with jazz because I was raised in it, from way back. I'm not putting jazz down, but I'm not a jazz singer ... I've recorded all kinds of music, but (to them) I'm either a jazz singer or a blues singer. I can't sing a blues – just a right-out blues – but I can put the blues in whatever I sing. I might sing 'Send In the Clowns' and I might stick a little bluesy part in it, or any song. What I want to do, music-wise, is all kinds of music that I like, and I like all kinds of music. this song feels very sweet. the piano was great. i didnt get to note a lot else, but that isnt to say it wasnt good as much as the rest were. the fourth song is called Be Anything But Darling Be Mine. only a minute in, and i was very emotionally touched, as flustered as i am to admit that. it makes me think of gabe. i cried a little. it felt good. "thou swell" also reminds me of gabe but in a much brighter way, hes sweet and cute and i feel like i only need him around to feel okay. "stairway to the stars" is another one where the piano stands out to me. boy does this album make me think of gabriel! and her vocals are so beautiful and practiced. she is pitch perfect, its really a dedication to her craft i dont think is widely aspired to anymore because of the technology we have. "honeysuckle rose"!!!!!!!! its my song this time. this is gabe's song to me !!!! i want to be the sweetest thing in his life. this song makes me think about playing those sandbox games where you build things and craft and make an impact on the world around you, and i really do picture doing that with gabe in every way. i am still myself, but i enjoy letting him be a part of my life. i dont know what im really supposed to put in this and if it's supposed to be more technical. to me music is good if it makes me feel good and i think it really sounds impassioned and crafted. "just a gigolo" next song... jay coded. (oc not me.) half joking. actually joking its about actually being one. he could relate i guess? anyways. its cool, but i dont click with it as much though i do really love the piano again, i really like piano in general. the cons of live performances in "how high the moon"..... im assuming this was meant to be a cover??? sarah herself sings that she doesnt know the words. she mostly shoop-da-boops (i just dont know the term) and her voice is great and the notes are nice but i just. want to hear songs. its the last song and thats kind of an unfortunate note to end on. but she sings "we did the best we could" and i dont know if thats a notable lyric from the original song or not but it was a worthwhile note. overall, i liked the album a lot and i am excited to see what comes next. i think i will go with a rating system of 1 to 10, or maybe percentages to 100%. this album, with the inexperience of being the first of however many i end up listening too and the bias therefore, i will rate a 7/10, more specifically graded about a 74%. - 4/10/2024, Jay
