1001 Albums Summary

Playful, how else can you describe it? Snoop makes a disrespect for women clear, but just seemed more playful and well, silly, and that comes through in his music. I grew up with quite a few of these songs, because my father deemed them a similar vibe to his own typical tastes. Thus a lot of this album is more nostalgic than anything, and the ones unknown slot in beautifully to what I'd already hurt. Great listen, and happy I did.

Messy and lacking harmony. Excited to listen to the greats, but aside from a build up section in the final song of the Album, "Iron Maiden", nothing struck a chord. Background music from the generation before mine, and I can see why I have not heard any of these songs passively in the years since.

Melancholic, right? That's the word when you're grieving over your own impotent rage. Yet they fought all the same, till it killed him. Songs here are familiar, old coats, put away from my sight and hearing. But they slip on the same. Reminding me of angry youth budding into tired adulthood, the world rotting beneath my feet. But I have to stand all the same. Melancholic, definitely.

The pacing isn't quite the flow or rhythm I associate with the age, or with dance music, but I feel it beginning. That change. I respect it for it's point in the timeline. I don't know if I'd go on to listen to it on my own time. Ultimately, a lot of this album is written from the point of view of the romantic. Alas, one I can't quite empathize with. Two stars, one for each good song, Good Times and What About Me.

My god, I've never sat down and listened to Johnny Cash. The albums got a good playful vibe, with an undercurrent of sorrow for the prison system. Or that was what I felt at least. A good natured man it seemed, playing music for the soul. Even the damned souls.

Heavy and poetic, a genre I know little of. Each song is poetry, a saga, a story. I couldn't possibly relate with what GZA is putting down and yet, you can't help but feel it. Impressive style and lyrical mastery. Shadowboxing and 4th Chamber in particular struck a chord of a kind.
