1001 Albums Summary

I have never listened to a full Doors album. I think their saturation and ubiquitous-ness in american culture and cinema in particular has turned me off. After a listen I was taken aback by the power: this album had almost a heavy metal vibe. Morrison is subtler and more gentle at times than I imagined. Don't get me wrong; the animalistic, gutteral howls are there. But he hits different emotions and tones as well.

What can I say…it’s Micheal. Some of the best pop songs on the front half of the album and then it veers into R&B. Which isn’t my jam. But to have production by Quincy Jones and still be the main event is tough to do. But not for MJ.

I think Massive Attack's music had more of an upbeat, active vibe than I thought it would have but it was still tough for me to sink my teeth into it. The addition of vocals provided a layer on top but I've gotten so tired of rapping for some reason.

The first side of the album for me is full of bangers. Trampled Underfoot is my go to track to get amped up. It’s hard for me to be engaged with the more bluesy stuff even though Jimmy’s riffs on everything is exquisite. The biggest continuous thrill for me is Bonham’s work throughout. The sheer force, the griminess, the beauty…he’s the best. He is calculated madness.

I can’t remember what it was like. It’s been too long. On to the next one.

Hendrix's guitar is probing and epic. The album is a bit more playful than I expected.

Seminal. Shaped the way I listen. Personal yet universal. Brian Wilson is the goat. Rest in peace.

I can’t get behind the singer/songwriter aspect of pop sometimes…even if it’s John Lennon.
