My first album suggestion. Right off the bat (haha) I can't think of any Meat Loaf songs other than I'd Do Anything For Love that I know of...and his Rocky Horror Picture Show appearance.
I should say the album cover is very quintessential 70's-80's rock, and I love it, but it does evoke more metal than rock-opera vibes.
After listening to this all the way through, I can definitely see the musical theatre direction with Steinman. It's always a little weird to hear grown men sing about teenage love, but regardless of lyrical content, the musicality is strong, I love the piano and strong vocals, particularly in the opening and closing tracks, making this a pretty well rounded album. I found myself getting a bit bored and tired with the songs in between, but when the album ended, I did wish there was a bit more. Just that the more had similar vibes to the first and last songs.
Being that this is the first album recommended to me on here, I am curious how the rest of this journey will go. I can see this being a favorite of cis white guys from this era or who were raised on it from their parents. Not a knock against anyone, it just definitely has those vibes, haha.
Added to playlist: Bat Out of Hell, For Crying Out Loud
Thought about adding You Took The Words Right Out of my Mouth, and Paradise by the Dashboard Light, but ultimately decided against it.
Rest in peace, MeatLoaf
I love Bowie. I've listened to his entire discography all the way through at least once before, so,
Songs already saved to playlist, just Heroes and Moss Garden,
But it's been a while, and I was young.
I dunno what I'm saying, lol, anyways...I don't have a lot of time for this, so I at least want to say that I'm a weirdo and I'm a fan of the dramatic, synth-y, instrumentals, especially with an upbeat, poppy song at the end to sign off with. I know a lot of people won't agree with me, but still.
So, I added Beauty and the Beast, Joe the Lion, Blackout, Sense of Doubt (I love the way it leads into Moss Garden), and The Secret Life of Arabia.
Not the best Bowie album to me, but I'm happy I'm doing this and gave this a re-listen as a fan. :)
Non-listeners, listen with an open mind and ear, it may not be your cup of tea but I and many others have certainly enjoyed the depth and strangeness that comes along with Bowie.
All right, a notable classic, iconic rock album. I think many others will agree that Pink Floyd transcends and bends the genre in unique ways.
Personally, not my favorite of mine off the bat but it has been a while, if ever, that I've actually listened to it all the way through...
Previously saved songs: Young Lust, Comfortably Numb
I'm currently near the end of this album...I learned that it's a rock-opera type-beat but like...what is even going on? The plot has been lost on me, but I'm vibing. Though, it has taken me a while to get through this hour and 20 minutes, so I have gotten bored of it a few times trying to listen to it.
Honestly, not really sure what to say. Aside from the notable hits of which there are a handful, I was pretty disinterested. Felt a bit longer than it needed to be.
Added songs: Mother, Hey You
Again, notable radio plays here, nothing new or groundbreaking to me in my listen. Another solid, mid, UK hyped album.
Wish I could give it 2.5 stars.
