Bookends
Simon & Garfunkel
Extremely modern sounding album for its time.
Had to do a triple take that I wasn't listening to music in another tab for Save the Life of my Child, I can't believe this song was recorded in the 1960s, feels like it's a modern remix of an old S&G song. Incredible stuff.
Voices of Old People is a skit that seems to set the template for contemplative skits on albums. I can't think of many skits from this era; I wouldn't be surprised if it was the first of its kind.
Beautiful orchestral production on Old Friends; maybe my favourite song here?
Second half lost me a bit despite the songs having more streams... interesting.

Unfortunately didn't make a huge impression on me. Bookends is the superior and more forward-thinking project, although I don't doubt the songwriting chops here, especially on Homeward Bound.
I wish I liked For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her more, sucks they didn't namedrop in the actual song.
But again, very innovative use of "skit"-like news report audio on 7 O'Clock News.

A Rose for Emily is pretty brutal.
Time of the Season is definitely used in some ad but can't remember where.

A pretty flawless album. 80s maximalism at its best.

The Queen Is Dead

The Queen is Dead is a great opener. I Know It's Over hits a little too hard lol. Great guitar in the second half of the record. Some Girls are Bigger than Others is a great song, maybe Light should have been the closer but it's great.
Very enjoyable and I think this will take many more listens and many more years to fully appreciate this album. Could see it going up to a 5 eventually.

Really good, I need to listen to more k.d. lang. Very earnest country vibes.

Carried by the popular songs imo. Not bad but not something I will return to, just not my go-to genre.
