1001 Albums Summary

I never really got into Radiohead. This one is not accessible or easy to grasp. No problem, as long as beauty can be found. Or meaning be revealed. I don’t like the voice, which is limited. The music and the production is very special. Dystopia is here in the music. When I was young I listened to somber music and lyrics of The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Nico. Now I don’t understand anymore why this appealed to me. And I listened to Meddle of Pink Floyd. Now I search for meaning, renewal, honesty and some positivity without the superficial of really commercial music.

I’ve seen the film, heard the single ‘another brick in the wall’. It’s not my cup of tea.

A new one for me. I don’t know this album. Only happy when it rains: sounds ok. Stupid girl: hmm, not very interesting. Supervixen: I think it’s not my theme, maybe for another period in another life. Musically more interesting then the other songs. But boring in the elaboration.

This album reminds me of the past. Chameleon, a more than 15 minutes long jazzy bass theme (not on bass guitar but clavinet?) with keyboard/synthesizer and saxophone. This could drive one of my housemates crazy. Watermelon man. When I am listening now I still think Herby Hancock is funky, bur I am missing something (a voice, a surprise, lyrics), although the instruments do have a talk in Watermelon Man… Sly; It is jazz, it is a bit Santana in the percussion and freaky. Vein Melter is wonderfull on the keyboards, the baseline, the reverb, a really jazz funk dreamscape. Maybe the pieces are (too) long in these impatient times. I am now going to llisten too Hancocks earlier album that maybe was before he was more mainstream funky jazz. And via via I found the new album of Nubiyan Twist. Exactly the kind of funky jazz I need anno 2024!

Which songs did I listen to? Heart of Gold. The other songs I don’t know. When he isn’t indulging in self-pity and his guitar gets louder it is more tolerable.
