1001 Albums Summary

Great production across the board. I really enjoyed the laid back, eclectic feel of most of the album. I felt like rental car and e-pro subtracted from this a bit, but I can see them fitting well with someone more accustomed to the sound. Great album, imagine if Jay-Z had a verse on hell yes.

1st half is good, nothing I dislike, but nothing that jumps out at me as phenomenal. However, join the boys starts a string of absolute heaters. I absolutely loved the second half of the album, with like fire being the high point for me. If the first half felt as unique and interesting, it’s a perfect album, but for now the first half holds it back for me.

I love some of the sounds on this album, but ultimately it felt like a lot of the same aside from the ballads, which didn’t feel like anything special to me. I’m sure part of this is unfamiliarity with the genre, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the ranking goes up in the future.

This album’s highs are some of the best music I have ever heard. But it is also an hour and 20 minutes, and much of the album is good but not good enough to justify the runtime. If this album was cut to the high points, it could still be 40 minutes and also be one of the best albums I’ve ever listened to.

Probably some of this is due to some hip hop bias, but this album is perfect. It doesn’t get better than this. RZA and the other members of wu tang created an iconic sound, a production style that inspired the decades of New York rap since. The beats on this album are some of the greatest ever created, and the rhymes are just as good.
