3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Aug 03 2024

The first album in what is sure to be a long journey. To start, every song has a freelance vibe that makes me want to put the windows down in the car and drive through a scenic location. The guitars throughout the project are not only captivating, but liberating and I feel as if that more intense flavor perfectly balances out the soft singing. This is an album made to sway to, and it does a good job at what it sets out to accomplish. Overall beautiful, despite the multiple recordings of different songs, and the several interviews at the end of the album which seem to be tacked on. As I have not looked in to the matter, I imagine that the record wasn't originally composed in that way, so I will give the Isley Brothers the benefit of the doubt. Definitely adding a lot of this project to some romantic playlists. What a way to set this off!

As someone who has little experience with this genre and era, I was blown away by the versatility of this project and its message. With impactful lyrics, astonishing guitar riffs, and excellent pacing, Muse manage to preform what I can only describe as a “must listen”.

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Aug 05 2024

While this album had some catchy hooks and amazing guitar solos, it didn’t have some of the highest highs compared so some of the other albums I have already listened to. At times it is atmospheric, and at times it is a perfect sing-a-long but I doubt it is something I would continuously return to. Despite that, I still understand and agree that this is a project I would deem “essential listening”.

Low by David Bowie
Aug 06 2024

Beautiful instrumentation, composition, pacing unlike anything I’ve ever heard from Bowie

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Aug 07 2024

While initially a lot of the concepts for each songs start out fun and engaging, I find that they quickly become repetitive or annoying. While some tracks hold my attention and I can enjoy, others simply overstay their welcome. If the songs were shorter, and perhaps there were more of them, I would think much higher of this project. Despite these complaints, these songs sound like an acid trip and definitely have some soul behind them. Great music to study or work out too, due to its almost monotonous nature.

Killing Joke by Killing Joke
Aug 08 2024

While there were some definite highs throughout this album, a lot of the lyrics left more to be desired. Maybe I’m hating, but I didn’t feel as impactful a statement as the wiki article stated was there.
