This is definitely not a new favourite queen album for me but I quite enjoyed it as an exercise in spotting the earlier versions of things that they ran with in later hits as I’m not familiar with most of the tracks on this album. The piano-vocal relationship in parts of in the lap of the gods for example is so very bohemian rhapsody that I found it weirdly comforting to hear in a song that I hadn’t heard before. Yes I am making the astute observation that queen sounds like queen For a split second I thought the Spotify algorithm had done something funky and was playing I want it that way by the backstreet boys but alas that was just the start of tenement funster. My slight disappointment at it not in fact being I want it that way speaks to the fact that this album was not entirely for me (although tenement funster did win me over in the end) but was a net positive listening experience nonetheless, hence the solid 3 star.
