Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Sep 30 2024

I thought it was a decent album. It had good acoustical parts like Simon and Garfunkel always had. There is some good melody throughout. It having Mrs Robinson on it is a plus. I think I’ll give it a 7/10. Some songs weren’t as good as others, but the album flowed well.

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Oct 01 2024

I felt musically each song had a lot of repetitive melody in both the vocals and guitar parts. It didn’t feel like enough variety in that regard. They certainly are good musicians, but they lost me with the repetitiveness. Lyrically I don’t know the language, so if I could I would vote 2.5 rather than 2 out of 5 if I understood the words. Maybe the lyrics elevate the album some.

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Oct 02 2024

I’m a huge Beatles’ fan, so it will be rare to see me rate any of their albums beneath a 4 out of 5. But this one I would probably put at a 3.75. And that’s just because there are maybe three tracks or so not as great as the others. If you are a fan of the Beatles’ earlier work, than this album is for you. This album is the peak of their earlier work in my opinion. That being the really early years. The reason I give it 3.75 to 4 stars is because as often is the case with their albums both the chord progressions and the melody writing is second to none. Also, at the time, they really were inventing some of the sounds and ideas that would make its way into music moving forward. Lyrically it showed their propensity for writing real life lyrics. It’s just an overall great album with two number one hits, A Hard Day’s Night and Can’t Buy Me Love.

This was already one of my favorite albums of all time. It has great melody and lyrics. It flows well, and it is well produced. I think I’d give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Is This It by The Strokes
Oct 15 2024

This is an album that brought back memories of college for me. It was played a lot back then in dorms and apartments. I think it is a solid album. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5. I don’t give it a higher score just because there are some songs on the album in my opinion that are just okay and not super amazing. The two biggest hits do help my overall score to be higher than say 3. It’s a great album if you are in the mood for its 60’s type rock sound.

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Oct 16 2024

I thought it was a good album. I’m not a huge rap listener, so that’s probably why I’m not giving it a higher rating. But I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5. Sonically the album is very good. The sound engineering was excellent. Also the flow of the album from song into song was great.
