Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye

On “Let’s Get It On”, Marvin Gaye demonstrates why he’s the king of love songs. Tracks flow top down like molasses; Gaye’s voice envelops you like a warm hug. I was also very surprised by the tight, live sounding percussion. Just like me, I wish this project lasted longer.

Arctic Monkey’s debut album did not move waves for me personally. Instrumentally, the angular riffs and taxing chord shapes served to add some much needed liveliness on this project. However, Alex Turner’s vocal performance, coupled with lacklustre songwriting, really hindered what was already a stale sonic experience.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Oct 06 2024

Joplin’s “Pearl” was a spunky, coarse, and stirring endeavour. Joplin’s raspy voice paired with rolling grooves provided amiable listening. However, the album did not stick with me due to a lack of depth in writing and theme.

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis

Bit of a slow burner. There was some interesting pockets, but it meandered quite a lot.
