John Coltrane: . American jazz artist 1926-67 . Pioneer in the American jazz industry and the history of jazz as a whole . Left a legacy of inspiring musicians across all genres. . In the 1960s he formed a quartet composed of himself, McCoy Turner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones A love supreme thoughts and reflections: 1. A love supreme, pt 1 - Acknowledgement: First song of the album, personally at this point never listened too much jazz but I'm a somewhat fan of this from the opening song, the mix of the bass instruments with the backdrop of one of the band members repeating "a love supreme" gives the opening song a heavy and deep but also a reflective tone to start the album. 2. A love supreme, pt 2 - Resolution: An upbeat tempo starts resolution from the offset, it offers the listener the impression of a high end casino in Vegas in the 1960s, sort of thing you'd expect to hear while a heavy scent of tobacco lingers in the air, alas you could say that about every piece of jazz ever I imagine. The second peice of jazz is characterised by a bass instrument with a backing of a piano/ keyboard perhaps the afformentioned McCoy Turners work pulling through on the piece. 3. A love supreme, pt 3 - Pursuance: Heavy drum sound on this third piece perhaps it helps to set the undertone of the piece, as the piece plays on there is the introduction of a piano which overtakes the piece of music very energetic not as slow as the first piece. - In the end I didn't finish this and I am unlikely to return to it. This stems from a place of not having too much background knowledge on jazz works and maybe in the future I could return to it with a new appreciation for the art.
