1001 Albums Summary

I've only listened to 2 songs by The Cure before listening to this (Just Like Heaven, Friday I'm in Love), but I'm a big fan of all the synth & instrumentals so far! not as big of a fan of Robert Smith's vocals, but I'm just picky w/ singer vocals, and they didn't bother me as much the longer the album went on. the back half of the album kind of drags, but overall a pretty good album! I'd put it on in the background while working but prob won't try actively listening in full again. 3.5/5 rounded down to 3/5

my throat immediately hurts just listening to and thinking about the way this guy sings. and he's done this for over 30 years? good lord for some reason the YT Music version of Shoot to Thrill is the Iron Man 2 version of the song? fully featuring Robert Downey Jr and Iron Man's romantic interest, and dialogue from the movie too as I'm listening to Givin the Dog a Bone, calling these lyrics "double entendres" is pretty generous to these horny blokes lmao I can get behind this genre of music in very small doses (3-5 min) but this much (a single, 42 minute album) is Too Much For Me standout song(s): You Shook Me All Night Long (only song I knew & liked coming into this, and that still stands!); honorable mention to Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution

listened to the US version instead of the UK version, and I think that was the right decision. leading off with Paint it Black set a great tone that was absolutely not matched by the rest of the album. did you know these guys LOVE to fuck and disrespect women? it's most of the album, which gets old pretty quick. Flight 505 slipped in between the misogyny sandwich made me laugh though, "I got bored of my life and went to escape and the plane crashed and I DIED. anyways, this girl I know SUCKS." if they had to keep Going Home, I'm glad they ended the album with it, because GOD does that song go on and on and on and on... listening to the UK exclusives, Mother's Little Helper and Out of Time are pretty enjoyable, even if Out of Time gets a little repetitive and runs ~2 min too long. Take It or Leave It? sure, I'll leave it, thanks standout songs: Paint it Black, Mother's Little Helper, Out of Time 2.5 rounded down
