Young Americans
by David Bowie
What a perfect day to jump in! There are definitely better Bowie albums, but I love hearing him start to play with funk. It's clear that this was a transition album where he was trying some new things (new for him at least), but it doesn't sound entirely derivative. It feels like a genuine attempt to find a place for his voice in the realm of soul/funk/r&b, and even if it falls a bit short I'm not mad at it. Fame is obviously a shining moment. Admittedly, I'm a bit biased when it comes to Bowie.
