Dirt
by Alice In Chains
Middle school classic for me. I’ve grown to appreciate the lyrics and atmosphere a lot more, though I usually only finding myself coming back to 2-3 songs regularly. As an album, this is a very energetic yet draining experience. The bright and electric surface quickly gives way to a dark core. The range of feelings expressed go from deep depression, addiction, desperation, elation, shame, movement, sorrow, spite, to bitter acceptance. Great structure beginning to end. Wild and psychedelic guitar work with some of the most brutal and human vocal performances of all time. Great gateway into the darker sides of grunge and alt rock.
