1001 Albums Summary

Music overall has an experimental feel mostly uses minor scales and relies on the percussion instruments to drive the music forward. There were sporadic synthetic notes / sounds that perhaps reference psychedelic experiences. Vocals are coarse and sometimes quite repelling; screams are frequently featured again with repelling effects. Lyrics convey strongly of angst and dread and despair, often simple and of little literary merit. The narratives conveyed in the lyrics are incomplete or tangential. The repeated lines however conveys very relatable sentiments .

Overall the songs are fun and uplifting to listen to with enjoyable melodies, backed instrumentals, enticing instrument playing and chords and whimsical synthetic sounds. The lyrics depict mundane scenarios and generally conveys a sense of optimism and/ or comfort.

A mix of enjoyable and less enjoyable songs. The title track ‘heroes’ is one that I would listen to again. The instrumental/ ambient musics were a welcome surprise following some of the eerie and somewhat overwhelming songs. There were some intriguing features such as talking with little musicality I.e. not singing, over the rich layers of instrument playing, as well as some synthetic sound effects. The lyrics felt a bit cryptic. There were probably a lot of culture references that the lyrics alluded to but I did not understand; nothing in the music was helping me to understand them either.

Didn’t disappoint. Many enjoyable tracks, really liked her musicality and the lyrics. Whilst I appreciate her candid approach to write about experiences of love and breakups, juxtaposing all her songs together just felt cringe. ‘Oh what are you up to now, girl?’ On their own they are catchy and I would listen to them on repeat, but collectively they are less than their sum. Is a TS concert going to be like a coaster ride of her love stories?
