weird, surprising, wonderfully musical - it's hard to believe that popular music used to involve so many instruments or that it was so unpredictable and complex. It makes the corpus of modern music feel flat and distinctly ~unmusical~ That doesn't mean I loved every moment of it. It's not of my milieu. And predictable as it may be, I love a love song, and that is not the Point of this album. Spotify switched to recommended songs without me noticing - love songs from this era of weird, surprising, wonderfully musical music. And turns out, that's more my speed. But this album was, nonetheless, an absolute treat for my ears. It turned into a meditation on the flattening of popular culture and of music. I thought that you needed an orchestra to love music this much. I was delightfully wrong.
