The Clash
it started off good, sometimes i though each song sounded a bit too similar, but it didn’t feel too jarring, and i enjoyed the consistency. but everything fell apart for me at track 7, deny, when i got it in my head that the lead vocalist, mr the clash, almost certainly had a speech impediment or at least has an obscenely wet mouth. from then on i couldn’t focus on anything but him pronouncing his th’s as ss and his s’s as th’s!! “deny, your thuch liar”. its so strange because it only seems to happen in the chorus of each song too, the first verses of protox blues and police & thieves sound great but as soon as the chorus hits all i can hear is how much saliva he has in his mouth. it just sounds like each time he takes a breath he’s actually taking a very small bite out of a sandwich and then continuing to sing. as someone who deeply hates mouth noises and eating asmr this is genuinely a form of torture. alas the guitarist is very talented and i can appreciate its sorta “we are playing this in a garage and the neighbours HATE us” vibes the whole album has really genuinely wish i hadn’t noticed it and could just enjoy without focusing on it, i’m aware how nit-picky and crazy i must look. i also adore any singer who just sounds ridiculously british, i also think every song is exactly the length it should be, it feels like they’d all work pretty good as an intermission between any two songs. also “don’t use the rules . they’re not for you they’re for the fools . and your a fool if you don’t know that . so use the rules you stupid fool” made me burst out laughing and i don’t really know why, he just really wants to let us know we are a fool.

i really enjoyed this album. there where a few times it sounded a bit too country for me, but even then it’s not like country music is horrible, just a bit annoying sounding to me (blame my dad for having a country music phase in 2016). i’ll almost certainly buy this album on CD if i see it at vinnies, Hotel California is an obvious hit but i also really enjoyed Pretty Maids All In a Row and Wasted Time (reprise). i’m struggling to pick between a 4 and a 5 but im just not super drawn to listen to this album again for a little bit, i might reserve my 5’s for albums that i get hooked on, and this one, while it has all the ingredients of an album i’d love, just didn’t hook me.

i started off thinking this album sounded like the kinda thing someone would show you saying “it’s the most influential album they’ve ever listened too” but they only felt that way because they listened to it while their life was already changing the way any life does, but i ended up enjoying parts of it. the first few songs didn’t really grab me and i started scrolling twitter halfway through the album but i ended up really enjoying it as a background to my doomscrolling, and there really is a variety of songs here, although sometimes to the detriment of my enjoyment, the transition from the book and the canal to attack el robot attack really threw me and i didn’t like it, but overall pretty enjoyable. wish i could do 3.5 but 4 seems like a stretch

i really struggled between a 4 and a 5 but it’s hard to enjoy any song that i know won’t resolve itself for another 12 minuets. overall did really enjoy the album, ive said most of what i want to say in person haha

i’m terribly afraid i’m just gonna keep giving everything a 4 but who cares, it’s randomly generated so i’m bound to have a few 4s in a row. each song was different enough from the last and it was the perfect kind of loud. i must say though, im not sure how they managed to remove all the energy from born to be wild, while i was listening i was certain that couldn’t be the original and im glad it wasn’t. the audio engineering on the drums was incredible i could hear every little tap and crinkle i loved it. great to listen to while cleaning, pumps you up. i can sorta tell id get sick of this album pretty quick but none the less still enjoyable to listen to twice.

great album. i’m so glad the cow bells and bongos stuck around for every song. it all sort of blended in together, but i really enjoyed that. it was really loud but still quite ambient if that makes sense. like background music but in a really good way, it stand out enough where i recognise it and it’s like “oh yeah” but i can sorta zone out. not really sure i’ve articulated this very well but all that matters is i enjoyed it a lot.
