Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman
This album was a smart listen, musically interesting, and Chapman is very talented. For me, personally, it is unfortunately not the sum of its parts. I simply can't put my finger on it, but there is just something that turns me off of the record. It's one of those albums your friends enjoy and swear by and you know they aren't wrong about it at all. It just isn't for you. I may have sung a different tune had I been older and heard it upon release (I was 2), but in 2025 I just can't sign on for this one. Perhaps that is my ultimate takeaway - like a movie that is just too old to hold your interest, it is a highly respectable pass for me.

What a cool record, seriously. So far, I've been given albums by artists that I am familiar with, but haven't actually heard their music.

Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Pretty cool record. I don't know how to describe it exactly. It was giving me the vibes of a precursor to punk-pop Green Day types of bands, but I'm not even sure if that's accurate.
Either way, it was a dope record and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Stylistically, I just don't know if I'll return to it much, but that is more of my preferences and not the quality of the music.

Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul
Otis Redding
I am not much of a soul guy, but my father was. Listening to this one reminded me a lot of listening to his old Motown records. Redding is clearly a pioneer. Definitely the kind of guy comedians base their parodies on when they want to use soul tropes and that is a huge compliment. Not a huge fan of the slower tracks, but Redding crooning is wonderful and makes every song feel important. Passionate singer for sure.

Don't have to listen or say much, one my absolute favorites. Ramble on.
