1001 Albums Summary

I can see why the main critiques are there. I do think it is a product of its time. You can feel the vibe of “Us against them”. I can hear the experience in the stories they tell. An entire song about “bitches” is pretty wild though. I get how this is an experience when rising to fame, but being upfront about expectations is a thing. Very edgy, “parental guidance advised” is funny. I can see why it is so iconic and opened the doors for artists today.

My first impression of U2 was in 2014 when they put their album on everyone’s ipod/iphone. I never listened to their early stuff which got them their notoriety. This album questions the actions of war. Waking up to crazy news about people dying so close to home, and how to react. Acknowledging that you don’t have the answer to a conflict, but know that something has to give. The drawn out words give it a sense of sadness and frustration. I like the album overall.

I love how each song sounds like a story. It’s something I would hear at a party. It’s funny, but it’s got something to say. I like listening to it. Not my usual listen, but I can appreciate it.
