Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Apr 17 2025

4/5 Feels more minimal and synth/club oriented than a grand operatic album like ‘Purple Rain’; Closer to the likes of Kraftwerk. Can tell that a lot of electronic music after this album has been influenced by it. Favourite songs: ‘If I Was Your Girlfriend’ & ‘The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker’

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Apr 18 2025

This album sounds like it could be the soundtrack to a smoked out room full of hippies talking about the Kennedy Assassination and the moon landings; in the best possible way. Same time it’s been used in a million a film montages of people taking drugs in green rooms throughout the 60’s and 70’s. On the instrumentation you can feel a heavy Blues and early Rock n Roll influence. Jimmy Page’s unpredictable guitar work appears out of nowhere as if it’s a lightning bolt (he must be a fan of Jimi Hendrix). Robert Plant’s voice oozes sex appeal, never thought I’d say it but I’m a Led Zeppelin fan, I get it now. The more stripped back parts of the record, specifically on ‘Thank You’ shows the depth to the band’s sound, it’s not all guns blazing. The flanger vocal effect used throughout, but most prominently on ‘What Is and What Should Never Be’ is a nod to the psychedelic 60s; where as the album as a whole feels like it paved the way for the early 70s. Favourite Songs: ‘What Is and What Should Never Be’, ‘Thank You’, ‘Ramble On’ & ‘Whole Lotta Love’ I did not expect to like this so much. Thought it was going to be a non stop self indulgent cock rock album but I think I’m getting confused with Def Leppard.

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure

More minimal than I expected but some serious tracks on there. ‘A Forest’ being one of the best songs of all time.
