Moving Pictures by Rush
Apr 29 2025

5/10. I wrote some notes on a song-by-song breakdown and then it got deleted. So this is what I have for today: - YYZ is effectively serving as an instrumental interlude at the mid point-ish of the album, transitioning into the more mellow song with Limelight - This whole album can be defined by its use of the synthesizer, with some strong drum/guitar interactions. - The Camera Eye being 10:58 min long, ok I see where Taylor Swift All Too Well (10 min verison) got the inspo. This song seems to be separated into acts/movements and it reminds me a lot of musical theater storytelling - I assume Witch Hunt is being referenced in the portrait in the foreground of the album, which makes me wonder if there are other references in the cover art. If so, I like the cohesion between the album and the album art. - The vocal style is not my personal favorite, but I can see where it probably influenced modern artists like Greta Van Fleet. - There's a lot of moments that felt like it could be backing music to a Regular Show montage, which is probably due to the strong synth use. I also liked moments like in The Camera Eye where the music felt cinematic and I could envision a scene playing out with the music in the back.

funky town, 7/10

Only By The Night by Kings of Leon
May 07 2025

8/10. I learned Kings of Leon is from Mt. Juliet, TN, which makes them the only halfway decent thing to come out of there. I really like Closer as an opening track, immediately added to my monthly playlist. Sex on Fire is a certified classic. Interesting parallel of Be Somebody to the more popular Use Somebody. Odd theme for Seventeen.

Hearts And Bones by Paul Simon
May 08 2025

- Allergies feels like a spoken word performance given by a local high school theater improv troupe. - Hearts and Bones is hearts and boring - "Two times two is twenty-two, four times four is forty-four" in When Numbers Get Serious ??? - Train in the Distance please end my misery - CARS ARE CARS i'm fr gonna KMS what the hell This album is ass, can i give it less than a 1 star

Dare! by The Human League
May 09 2025

I have a soft spot for the kind of music The Human League makes. Makes me feel like I'm in the back seat of a white 2000 Honda CR-V. I do think the sounds got repetitive as the album went on. Don't You Want Me is one of my favorite songs, it just has that addictive quality to me.
