Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
May 06 2025

I feel like if I was playing a southern version of super Mario bros, yeehaw. I like it, it adds excitement to any mundane task and I’m glad they kept it without lyrics, which I feel would clash with the smooth flow of the music. I think they manage to captivate a joyous, playful and energetic atmosphere without the need of lyrics. They remind me of Otis Redding who creates a similar atmosphere.

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye

I didn’t listen to it all but I do like what I heard

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
May 11 2025

Misogyny, bigotry and violence are a common theme in rap music, however I feel like such themes never have a good impact on women, especially because these themes are given a pass in the rap genre as they are so common. I feel like many of eminems lyrics are focused on sexually explicit or violent acts towards women. Even though these acts are metaphorical, they still don’t have any metaphorical repercussions which would suggest that these acts are bad (if that makes sense). So the listeners are only met with a popular artist rapping about misogyny with no negative consequences for their theoretical actions, which overall reinforces the constant cultural misogyny in rap and the idea that this behaviour is actually okay. I hope this makes sense, I’ve entered a food coma as I write this so it might not.
