The Trinity Session
Cowboy Junkies
Haunting opening track. Just stripped vocals with a little reverb. Emotional use of harmonica. Percussion has a jazz like quality to it.

Dookie
Green Day
This is Jay's favorite album, I can hear the influence in what he writes and records on our tracks from this. I've never actually listened to this from start to finish until just now. I am familiar with the hits. An incredibly well polished and refined punk album(kind of an oxymoron). I'm curious who produced it.

Soulful, with depth and a strong lyrical base would definitely listen to this again.

The Slim Shady LP
Eminem
As a 9-10 year old kid I wasn't allowed to really listen to this. However I was familiar with some of the bigger songs on it. I can absolutely see why my mom didn't want me listening to it and why it was so divisive at the time. Coming back to this as an adult and listening through, I find this album hilarious and clever in a way I don't think resonated with adults in the late 90's, specifically parents. This album is child's play compared to what exists in the world today, and maybe because of this album. It's an important work. Generally enjoyed listening to this and viewing it through a different lens. There is clearly a lot of turmoil Eminem has been through and is feeling as well as some self hate that I related to most. (This was too long of a review, tone it back for the next one bud..)

London Calling
The Clash
I hadn't listened to this since highschool. I can hear so much of their influence in other modern punk and pop punk artists I listen to so I know it's culturally important. I didn't remember them using brass so prominently but it was enjoyable to revisit. There are a few songs on this album I quite like and would revisit again, but overall it's not a vein of punk that vibes perfectly with me.

Abbey Road
Beatles
There are probably more Beatles songs I've not heard than have at this point, and I've listened to a lot. I was familiar with many of the songs on this album but even more I had not listend to, I knew them through other compilation albums. It's interesting this was one of the last albums they worked on. I can feel their influence in some of my own writing, my dad had a healthy appetite for them in his youth, so I listened to a fair deal of them growing up. It was neat to listen to this album in its entirety, even though the latter half felt more like demos. I should listen through a few more of their albums, specifically rubber soul.
Favorite song - Oh! Darling

Is This It
The Strokes
This is another great album I remember listening to a bunch back in highschool. A few stand out tracks with an up beat and energetic flow made this a joy to come back to. Listening to it from start to finish has been enjoyable also. Someday, Soma, and the modern age are my favorites and to me really encapsulates what this whole album was for me.

Sweetheart Of The Rodeo
The Byrds
Never having listened to the Byrds before I didn't know what to expect, but I could help but picture Appalachia. I enjoyed most of what I heard and it felt like a sound track to a fallout game. That style of Americana folk music will always have a little place in my heart.

Parallel Lines
Blondie
An overall fun album. I was familiar with a few of the tracks off this, my favorite is hanging on the telephone. I've heard this covered by a few different groups and didn't realize Blondie had one, surprisingly! I'll give this one another listen soon.

Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman
Give me one reason to stay here...was not on this album.. but fast cars was those were the only two I was familiar with. I don't think I was in quite the headspace to listen to this when I did so I will need to give it another listen sometime soon. Otherwise it was good 90s coffee shop music.

Ocean Rain
Echo And The Bunnymen
Silver is a stronger opener. Of course The Killing moon because Donnie Darko. Any melodramatic music from this era nearly always vibes with me. Anyone who cries out a desire to shatter their being upon the shores of oblivion is instantly a way to my brain. Just on a personal note, I need to listen to more of these 1001 albums with headphones and no other distractions. I feel like I'm losing a lot of information and maybe missing the point on a lot of stuff. Get it together Chris.

British Steel
Judas Priest
Pre-listen: This should be interesting, I am not super familiar with JP, just by name only, and maybe if I head a song I'd recognize it.
Incredibly cool percussion elements, sounded like a hammer on metal for grinder. And I think the first song had what sounded like a shovel, shoveling coal into a furnace or something. I'm really enjoying all the production elements they were messing around with on this album. I bet this was pretty wild to hear this kind of music when it first came out and to hear some of the more unique production techniques being used. I wonder if anyone even cared back then? Overall an interesting listen, not quite my tempo, there are others in this genre I am more fond of.

Psychocandy
The Jesus And Mary Chain
Pre-listen: never heard of this group, but intrigued by the album cover.
Listening: an early gateway to 90s era hard rock and grunge scenes maybe? This feels like a garage band jamming out with maybe a little more discipline? So far I'm not too into the mix. Maybe it's budget, or maybe it's how they intended or maybe it was just limitations of the time. The vibe is really cool so far, no stand out songs yet.. I really like that sowing seeds song.

The Chronic
Dr. Dre
Pre-listen: I know this but name, never actually listened to this though, I know like one or two songs, very excited to check this out.
Listening:
Classic, love the variety of beats, skits were funny I can see why dre worked so well with Eminem. I think the strength of this album is when dre focuses on the beat and let's the feature carry the track lyrically. That being said my favorite track was lyrical gangbang which is just dre.

Catch A Fire
Bob Marley & The Wailers
Pre-listen: don't know too much about bob Marley and the wailers so curious to listen.
listen: You can tell how influential this album was and is just based on how contemporary it sounds, shocking that this was 73' it feels like it could have come out in the late 90s.
Overall a well produced album, listened to the delux edition and found there to be some interesting additions and changes from disc 1 to 2. an easy listen that I would have to be in the mood for on a second listen.

The Downward Spiral
Nine Inch Nails
pre-listen: Familiar with this album, I recall listening to this in high-school, but can't remember anything specific aside from hurt that stuck with me so I'm looking forward to diving back in to this.
Listened: There were not as many memorable tracks for me on this one, closer and hurt of course. Reptile was cool, but nothing really stuck with me. This was a good album to have on at the gym, and definitely benefited from having headphones on. It does feel like a decent entry point into NIN for a new comer, as their later stuff refines on this sound but maybe not the strongest of their albums that I recall. Overall I enjoy NIN songs but maybe not an entire album in one sitting
NOTE: Changing my internal ratings to include all stars now. 3 is now what I was considering a 4.

Gentlemen
The Afghan Whigs
The what now? Will says I'll like these guys.
Listening: They have a sound that has many intriguing elements to me, the opening song almost felt like Trent Reznor singing, especially having just listened to Downward Spiral. So far I'm not immediately hooked, but maybe there is a stand out song in here. This could be a band that has a handful of songs I like in their entire catalogue. Album snap shots are tricky to gauge.
