1001 Albums Summary

Michael has a good voice, and the instrumentals are pretty good, but its a little toothless and radio friendly for my pallette.

A classic for a reason. A bit held back by sub par production and a couple meh performances, the live version of "Old Dixie" is much better than on the album Favorite songs: Rocking Chair Jawbone King Harvest

I started the "album a day" to expand my musical pallette, and here we are, faced with an album I would've avoided like the plague as a man in my early 20s. Still, my Viagra Boys, Dead Kennedys, Sly Stone loving self was pleasantly surprised at times throughout "Melodrama". The chorus of "Perfect Places" is massive and catchy as hell, and Lordes songwriting throughout the album is introspective and sharp, if not downright cliche at times. While I am a fan of Lorde herself, I cant say the same for Jack Antonoff and his production style. His signature style of pop has dominated the radio waves for over a decade now, and at this point I find it tired and played out. Still Ive probably heard dozens of his songs without realizing it, so hes doing something right I guess. I had low expectations coming in, but came out the other side a slightly bigger fan of Lorde, I just wish she would drop the "oich" inflection in her singing 😆.
