1001 Albums Summary

More innovative of an album than the radio hits would suggest. Reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra and points to future sounds from The Mars Volta. Good balance between groove and free-flowing improvisation. Smooth guitar tones with occasional snarly over-driven sounds. Even popular songs like "Black Magic Woman" have more complexity than their radio edits would let on.

It's a constant classic. The intro to "Night" is one of my favorite guitar riffs.

Entertaining, and pulsing honky-tonk country. Merges into country swing a few times. The vocals are very smooth, almost proto-Beach Boys in a way. This is one of those weird periods in music where nominally country music straddled Roy Orbison-type Pop, less Nashville bar and more school dance.
