I was very much into roman candle and later either/or when they came out. I loved them but could only take so much - they hit a place that was uncomfortable. I did not stick around for Figure 8 but not for lack of liking his music and admiring his guitar skills. Mainly because, well, if i wanted to go to where elliott smith could take me, i rode what i was already familiar with. Anyway, great listen! I will be stingy with my 5 stars on here, but this is pretty close.
Not much for me here. I suppose Bee Gees has to be on the list but yeah, not my bag.
This is the first one that I was genuinely excited. I’ve always disliked Genesis and Phil Collins but Peter Gabriel has always stood as somebody I might like? I only know is hits, but I’ve known that he makes interesting music, just never dug into it. Ultimately, this album isn’t something I would listen too much or purchase, but I’m glad I heard it. Solsbury Hill and Humdrum stood out. Excuse Me was out of left field. It’s too… operatic for me, and I also dislike the heavy vocal effects. But again, happy it came up in the rotation.
4.5 if it were an option. Perfectly captures a time and place. And still holds up after all these years. Summer after 6th grade my girlfriend broke up with me in a McDonald’s, said it was because she was in love with Axl.
I loved this record late middle school. This and State of Euphoria. But I left it behind and it really didn't age well for me unfortunately and isn't something I'd spin today. However! I look back on those times fondly and am thankful this music was around back then.
Wow, i enjoyed this much more than i thought i would! There is some pop here for sure but far less than i expected, and the garage adjacent sound is just enough garage to push this to 3.5 stars for me but then i hear his quirky vocal style and we're back down to 3. All in all a pleasant surprise.
