Rock opera has never really been something I seek out, so this is an interesting first album to get! Part way in, this is very cheesy and over-the-top. It reminds me a lot of Christmas in a sense despite no direct connection. I don't dislike it so far, both "Bat Out of Hell" and "You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)" delivered about what I expected with the intense guitar riffs, general instrumental weight, and booming screams of a vocal delivery. "Heaven Can Wait" is a pretty minimalist ballad, a nice change of pace from the prior two tracks. "All Revved Up With No Place To Go" follows up with more of the prior funk, feeling very 50s in its soundscape. This one ends up being a bit too tacky for my tastes especially with the very sped-up ending. "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" didn't particularly stand out from prior tracks in any way to me. It's yet more decent rock opera. "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" definitely has the most variation, being a song in three acts, with increasing dramatics between the two characters portrayed in the lyrics. It builds to a satisfying climax, definitely standing out amidst its contemporaries. "For Crying Out Loud" goes for a more ballad-y approach to finish off the album, while still getting quite operatic. The piano work here is pleasant. Overall, a pretty cheesy product that is very of its time, even with all the 50s influence strewn throughout the construction of the music. Nice to explore, but not something I'd soon revisit.
