The Stooges
I see now why The Stooges were so influential. This album ramps up in a way that I didn't expect--the first few songs have the same feel of their debut album, but as the album progresses it also becomes more chaotic, jazzy and hypnotic. Especially when you compare this album (and The Stooges' 1969 album) to their contemporaries, it's very easy to see its importance in the music that followed it. They were psychedelic without being show-offy, they were heavy, they were as weird as it gets, but they still knew how to catch your ear with hooks and riffs that will stick in your head for days.
