Sister by Sonic Youth

Sister was an enjoyable listen. The only other Sonic Youth record that I'm familiar with was Daydream Nation and even then, it's been a minute since I last listened to it. I remember listening to "Kool Thing" and "Superstar" as separate singles as well. I didn't really pay too much attention to the lyrics or the vocal melodies honestly, as the guitars were at the front of the mix, often being very suspended, dissonant, noisy and in-your-face. They reminded me of the noisier Midwest emo bands like Mineral, the Gloria Record, Pop Unknown, etc. that I used to listen to. Something I can incorporate into my songwriting is that fuzzy guitar sound, as well as alternate tunings that the band is known for. It can really make my songs standout.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Dec 02 2025

There was a lot of soul in the vocals which I really appreciate, and I liked how it very often traded spaces with the guitar. The bass was super melodic too. My favorite songs were "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary".

Tapestry by Carole King
Dec 03 2025

There's hardly a dishonest note that Carole sings throughout the entire record. My favorite tunes were "You've Got a Friend", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", and "(You Make Me Feel Like) a Natural Woman". Some of the songs did lose my attention a bit but overall, Carole's performance had a lot of soul and felt truly authentic.
