1001 Albums Summary

I really should have loved this album. 60's psychedelic folk rock? That's right up my alley, although I can't help but feel like something important is missing. Maybe originality? I don't rudely mean this, but I feel like nothing really NEW is being brought to the table. The vocals and lyrics are very Dylan-esque, which is one of the things about this album I enjoy, but that also connects with my earlier point that I'm not experiencing anything "ground-breaking" by listening. In my opinion, many better psychedelic rock/pop albums came out in 1967, but if you're looking for some background noise, this is not a bad record to put on. Overall, "Triangle" by The Beau Brummels was an enjoyable enough (yet unoriginal) listen. 2.5/5

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I had not listened to any of Neil Young's solo work, but I knew of his work from Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young- and I consider myself a fan of their music. "Southern Man" was THE song of the album for me; in my opinion, it was the real standout. It has been hours since my first listen, and I still can not get the guitar solos out of my head. Truly beautiful work, a 5/5 song for me. More songs I like are the opener "Tell Me Why" and also "Only Love Can Break Your Heart". I feel as if the first half of the album was stronger than the second half. To me, it seemed like it kinda fizzled out towards the end...that is not to say the songs were bad. They, in my opinion, just did not match the quality of the earlier songs. I, however, did enjoy the fun and whimsy the closing song "Cripple Creek Ferry" brought to the album. Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush" was an immensely enjoyable listen, and I will be checking out more of his work in the future. 4/5
