Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Dec 11 2025

Interesting. I didn't realize the Stone had such a twangy country sort of sound to them; I had always thought of them as being pretty straightforwardly rock. Per Wikipedia: " Released during the band's 1969 American Tour, it is the follow-up to Beggars Banquet (1968), and, like that album, is a return to the group's more blues-oriented approach that was prominent in the pre-Aftermath (1966) period of their career. Additional sounds on the album draw influence from gospel, country blues and country rock." I heard the country more than the blues on a cold listen, but once it's pointed out, the blues is very clear too. Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_It_Bleed

All Directions by The Temptations

Definitely not my style of music. Still, I can see why this is on the list and how it was so successful. It's a well-made album with strong musical skills, particularly vocals. "Run Charlie Run" was... whooo, VERY pointed, and did make me uncomfortable in a way that was worthwhile and worth sitting with.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Dec 13 2025

This album starts off really rough. The opening couple tracks are just.... Mm. Weird and almost more noise than music. However, I feel like it pulled together as it went and the last tracks are very solid. "Dollar Days" and "I Can't Give Everything Away" are haunting ends to Bowie's life and career.
