Incredible, I’ve listened to a number of songs from the album, but have never listened from start to finish - such a consistent album for the number of songs, no real misses.
Particular favourites that I was less familiar with previously; Rocky Racoon, Piggies, Glass Onion, Everybody’s Got Something to Hide, Helter Skelter & Good Night.
Holy shit - REVOLUTION 9 🤯
This one is pretty consistent, but for me, a lot of the songs blend together, there's not necessarily anything I'd be racing to revisit, other than the stand outs of Perfect Day and Wild Side, both of which have endured for a reason.
Reed's story telling and lyricism is really solid, and I really enjoyed the use of the Tuba on Goodnight Ladies & Make Up, it created a bit of a point of difference. Make Up is an interesting one, it's so cool to hear a song about a homosexual relationship from this era, despite it being heavily coded, the fact that it features on a release of this magnitude, from this era, is incredible.
Not my favourite album, but I thought the sequencing was very good, with a great build towards the end, I loved Words and Alabama, both of which I hadn’t heard before - earlier tracks blend into one a bit for me.
Really enjoying the vibe, but no really memorable moments other than Kashmir, solid album, maybe longer than it needed to be.
I was excited to listen to this one, and very disappointed with what I heard. It’s just not a good album, there are good songs, but as a whole, it’s too long and too repetitive for me. The vocals are also frustrating - I like to listen to the lyrics, and think about what an artist is saying, which is next to impossible here.
Soooo 2008 - it’s been a long time since I’ve listened to anything with this specific sound, enjoyed revisiting it a lot, but not sure if I’d go back any time soon. I would’ve liked some of the highs to be higher, some extra variety would have gone a long way.
