1999 by Prince

Fine but did often question if I liked it. Drags on. Sounds like the culminated project of a classroom of children making music out of household objects. Wailing child, squeaky balloon, children discovering keyboards for the first time, bashing metal bins, etc. Hate the moaning in Lady Cab Driver (skipped, halfway through) 2/5

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Jan 03 2026

Sounds like a wailing cat except in *Birds". I prefer when he's trying to be sad instead of edgy. "Southern Man" is gratuitously long but what the fuck "Till the Morning Comes". Fine, but life isn"t improved upon discovery 3/5

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Jan 04 2026

Inoffensively delightful. A nice reminder of what liking music means without forcing liking. Pleasant background. 3/5

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Jan 06 2026

Jazz hip-hop overlayed by rap. Felt like a forerunner to what Beyoncé did touring Black music. Decent, some lyrically powerful things. Doesn't leave me wanting to come back to it. Felt more like a conceptual experience than an album

In Utero by Nirvana
Jan 07 2026

Some art isn't meant to please but provocate. If nothing else "Rape Me" does that. Whilst I like the intent, I also don't think it conveys it well without explaination, but can believe it does for others. It is rather unappealingly repititve though. Otherwise, it's heavy distortion and blare noise. I liked "Dumb", "Very Ape", and "All Apologies"

Obviously, "Time to Pretend", "Electric Feel", "and "Kids" slap. But the rest of the album feels spacey David Bowie, which isn't for me. Just kept falling asleep trying to listen 2/5
