I’m already a fan of Bowie, but it was good to listen to another of his albums all the way through. Overall I liked it, not my favorite of his work, but it was interesting to hear more of his soul stuff. Young Americans is one of my favorite songs ever, so that was a great start. Win was great, I’ll definitely listen to that one again. Very similar vibe to Young Americans. Fascination and Right were both good as well, the sort of thing I’d play at a party. They didn’t stand out to me in any particular way but the groove is good on both. Somebody up there was sort of a miss on me. I don’t love the way Bowie uses his voice in it, and there’s a less funky and more repetitive nature to it. Across the universe was my least favorite on the album, it went on for too long with nothing particularly interesting. Can you hear me reminded me of one of the songs you hear at the end of a movie as the credits roll. Especially with the strings and the way the drum was. Not really a fan, but it might be a good slow dance song. Fame is a banger, my favorite along with Young Americans. I’m not sure how to describe it, it just has a certain groove in the duh-duh-duh part that’s perfect. Album rating: 6.5/10 Location: on the shuttle on the way to Crocker Park 1/11/26
