Imagine by John Lennon

Of course it’s fucking good- it’s John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Phil Spector. I wish there was a 4.5 star option, this was a 4.5 star album for me. I’m keeping it at 5 stars purely out of respect for Yoko Ono. God the music was good in the 70s! Reminded me of some of my favorite Bowie sounds…

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Jan 12 2026

I felt this album was VERY 50s - in my mind I could feel myself Christmas shopping at a department store in the 1950s while one of these songs played in the background. There were some pretty serious saxophone moments in there, that was pretty exciting! I feel like there’s not enough saxophone nowadays… It made me want to dance, and any album that makes me want to dance is not half bad in my mind!

Murmur by R.E.M.
Jan 14 2026

Not my favorite R.E.M. album, but still incredible. This would be an impressive album for any band, but this being R.E.M.’s debut studio album makes it even more so. Great sound - Stipe’s vocals and lyrics always come through. Instrumentation impeccable as always; I expect nothing less from this band.

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Jan 15 2026

Going into this, I thought I didn’t like Guns an’ Roses - now, I know I don’t like Guns N’ Roses. I can respect it for its cultural influence, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Call me simple, but I like music that actually sounds good.

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Jan 16 2026

I really enjoy Lou Reed’s work - I’m always so drawn to his music and voice. This was a good album, some really good tracks show up here - namely Pale Blue Eyes, The Murder Mystery, and After Hours. It’s got a timeless sound while carrying the softness that I hear in most music from the 60s. Not Velvet Underrated’s best work, but pretty darn good.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Jan 18 2026

Oh to hear this live - I can just tell this music shines when you can feel it in person… Funky, groovy, and good - I don’t listen to enough funk/soul but boy do I like it! I see why this record has such an impact on culture, it’s got something special in it.

Sound Affects by The Jam
Jan 18 2026

It was fine, and I enjoyed my listening experience, but it didn’t feel like anything special. Just another British band from the 80s… good, but not great.

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age
Jan 19 2026

My sister is a big Queens of the Stone Age fan, so going in I was very optimistic. I found this album to be somewhat lackluster, but there were a few guitar solos that I really enjoyed! Overall a fine album but doesn’t seem like Queen of the Stone Age’s best work - makes me wonder why this album specifically is included in the list.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jan 20 2026

What a phenomenal album - some of the best music on this planet. It’s rare that you get such good songs on a no skip album. Even the songs that I wasn’t as familiar with were incredible! Billy Joel you’re one of the greats!

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
Jan 21 2026

I’ve listened to this album before after it was recommended to me by a friend and I find myself coming back to the same conclusion as last time - I just don’t love this album very much. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why people enjoy it, it’s simply not my cup of tea! A few good moments throughout, but otherwise not anything too special - kinda middle of the road for me.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Jan 22 2026

This album didn’t stand out to me - it was simply just fine… not one of their best works. I will say though that I do have a certain fondness for Street Fighting Man thanks to Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 23 2026

Holy snore-fest… not a single track stood out to me. I understand that Bruce Springsteen is meant to be one of the greats, but in this album he sure doesn’t sound like it. Swing and a miss, buddy!

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jan 24 2026

This album was not good enough to be this long - started out okay, and only went downhill. By the time I got to Sir Psycho Sexy, I was completely over it. The only thing saving me from giving this album a 1 is Under the Bridge and the mildly interesting instrumentation. I can’t believe I was excited for this album, what a disappointment! Listening to this album is what it feels like to interact with most men my age.
