1001 Albums Summary

Not music for ketamine: too intense, aggressive, abrasive; immediately felt anxious paranoia. By all measures, this should have already been in the rotation, but never explored them beyond 'Where is my mind" and Doolittle. Super influential on many of my favorite artists, hard to believe that this was released in 1987. Though I was only 8 at the time, I don't remember hearing anything like this until my early teens when grunge broke out. Initial impression: grower, not shower. Score: 4/5 Can't imagine any of the 1001 will score below 4...

Not looking forward to this, honestly - not my genre, even for nostalgia's sake. Will try to be objective! Gave it two listens, mostly in the background while doing other things, but that's more than I'd ever do otherwise. Overall, not as cheesy as I anticipated, and the hits are definitely catchy. Found myself wondering what the use case for this music might be. Some of the deeper tracks are too weird - and not necessarily danceable - to be typical synth pop club music. I was drawn in on both listens to the final track, which was dark and foreboding and, dare I admit it, interesting. While l can't imagine myself listening to any of these tracks in the future for - at least for their their own sakes - the experience was not as tedious as I had expected. 3/5

Another oft-referenced classic I only have experienced through the hits, not as a full album. Only got as far as the first 3 or 4 sides before getting pulled away to do something else and did not feel the urge to come back and complete the listen. What I did hear was all over the map in tone and expression, though if not cohesive, each track was outstanding in its own rights. On the basis of the first half or so, 3/5.
