1001 Albums Summary

What a good first album to get. I've been meaning to listen to this for a while. I had the pleasure of watching the music videos while listening to the album and I really think that was a boon. Kind of recontextualizes the whole piece, giving it a little more of a carefree attitude. like these guys were just silly fucking around making music. But don't let that fool you, there is depth here. a lot in fact. The album kind of flows like a Jamiroquai album. Like they both have the hits but interspersed between are really nice instrumental tracks that just kind of bridge the entirety of the album, making it feel like there's never a constant tone throughout which gives a richness to the album. The album will jump from hip-hop to jazz, wrap to punk to instrumental jazz, and funk. It really just feels textured throughout. And all that could have easily come off as sporadic or unfocused it doesn't it gives the album a youthful vigor that still resonates over thirty years later.
