Perhaps my most controversial music opinion is that I don't like Queen, and listening to Sheer Heart Attack only strengthened my dislike for the band's music. Every song on this album sounds like an overly intense lullaby, and for me, the songs sort of blurred together into a Queenslop slurry. I still need to figure out why exactly I dislike this album so much. Sure, I can point to the sudden, irritating shifts from one soundscape to another on practically every song, the choruses that sound like fraudulent musical numbers, or overly dramatic (?) orchestration, but my contempt for the parts does not add up to my dislike of the whole shebang. Maybe I just listened to this on a bad day? Look, Sheer Heart Attack is not "hard" to listen to, and it's not an endurance test, and honestly, I kind of like "Bring Back Leroy Brown," but I could live the rest of my life without ever listening to another track on this album and not fare worse (or perhaps, marginally better).
