1001 Albums Summary

A very solid album. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. While I may not have loved every song on the album, each song had something I was able to appreciate. Standouts Sweet Talking Woman - Really loved this song, so fun Across The Border - Weird. Mexican instrumentation mixed with a British 1970s style. Jungle - This one is very cool. I'll definitely be coming back to it. Believe Me Now - Beautiful melody Mr Blue Sky - No notes, chef's kiss

I've never considered myself a fan of Prince despite liking a few of his hits. But I try to be fair and open to changing my opinions, so I went into this album thinking that even if I didn't end up liking Prince, a full album might at least help me appreciate what he does. It did not. By the end, I felt even less inclined to listen to his music. Notes: Little Red Corvette is objectively a great song, most likely due to the melody of the verse and the way it builds tension. Free isn't terrible, but I highly doubt I'll come back to it. International Lover isn't bad either. It's far more tender and emotive than most of the album. Though even that gets undercut by the weird flight attendant roleplay outro, which makes the whole thing feel a bit ridiculous. The rest I either did not like or they didn't stand out enough for me to remember what I'd listened to as soon as the song ended. One of the few redeeming qualities of the album is Prince's penchant for sharp, throaty screaming, which at least injects some energy into what is otherwise a boring-as-hell album. A lot of the album relies on repeating grooves without a payoff, which is likely why I felt bored.

No standout tracks except maybe the first one. Mysterons was really weird and atmospheric, which I enjoyed. The entire album feels like I'm in a hospital with a dying acquaintance. Not really a fan of Beth Gibbon's voice paired with the music. It's not that she has a bad voice, but with a different singer, I think the music would hit harder. Her voice (to me) leans smoother and soulful in a way. Also, I loved the strings on Roads. A truer rating would be more like 2.5. Pretty middle of the road for my taste.

This was a good album. As far as grunge goes Pearl Jam is my least favorite out of the main bands, but they have some nice hits. Once - a great start to the album Even Flow - impossible not to nod along to, on of my favorite Pearl Jam songs. Black - nice song, I really loved the vocalization at the end Deep - has some excellent guitar work

Really not my style, so I don't have much to say. It was just meh.
