1001 Albums Summary

Overrated band and album. I've been listening to Led Zeppelin non-stop for the last several weeks, and I think I've been spoiled with Robert Plant's phenomenal vocals. In comparison, the Beatles sound mediocre, and remind me of chipmunks. I couldn't wait for this album to be over. I do not understand the hype, and I find the melodies and vocals to be quite basic. Just not for me. Less Beatles please.

Iconic Flaming Lips album. It's makes for a good listening session with good quality headphones, or something easy and unobtrusive to have on in the background whilst I'm doing things around the home. I can appreciate the hard work that went into this album, there are a lot of different layers and sounds involved. I used to listen to The Flaming Lips quite a bit when I was younger. As I've aged over time, I've steered away from this style of music, and I am not as drawn to Wayne Coyne's vocals anymore. But I can still appreciate the beauty of this music, and I would/will come back to listen to this album again throughout different stages in my life.

A decent album, especially for a debut release. I had to remind myself that Nas wrote these songs in his teens, demonstrating his talent at a very young age. Considering this album helped influence Eminem (according to a quick Google search) is also very impressive. Without this album we may not have Eminem! Probably won't listen to this album again, but I can appreciate the beauty and hard work that went into Illmatic.

Excellent album, several classic songs and each song flows from one to another. It left me wanting more. Neil Young is an excellent storyteller and musician.

There are four songs on here that really stand out for me, and the album starts strong and ends strong with two of those songs. That being said, aside from the four standout songs, the rest of the songs kind of blur inbetween with forgettable melodies and weak vocals (sorry Debbie). I appreciate that Debbie Harry is iconic and paved the way for our 80s, 90s and 00s pop stars - for example you can see a LOT of Blondie influence in Madonna's early work. I also prefer the songs with Debbie where she's not trying so hard and she almost talking-singing with a deeper voice - suits her better in my own untrained and untalented opinion (how easy it is to critique others when I myself cannot sing). I want to give this album 3.5 stars but can't. I'm not sure if it deserves 4 stars, because I probably wouldn't listen to this album again (that's my own criteria for 4 stars). It deserves 3.5, but I can only rate it 3 due to the system limitations. Good album, some solid tracks on here.

Holy moly this is their debut album?? It's incredible! Amazing, couldn't fault it. So many bangers and such an amazing sound for the 90s era. I could never. I've definitely saved this album for future listens. No notes.
