Great album for my first of this project! I don’t have much in the way of technical knowledge when it comes to music, so I’ll probably more express my own thoughts and experiences. This album came out in 2004, but took me back to 2010; in retrospect a very “rock n roll” time in my life. I was a radio Dj, modelling, dancing burlesque, dating the lead singer of a band, and doing my PhD. Tracks from this album were on my iPod shuffle. I enjoyed the feeling of nostalgia these tracks elicited. Mr Brightside stands out, and was the right choice for them to release as a single, but my absolute favourite musically has to be All These Things That I’ve Done - it has three different musical themes it transitions across, a gospel choir, and just brings vibes. I also enjoyed On Top, which I don’t think I’ve heard before. Smile Like You Mean It and Somebody Told Me are overrated, not my favourites. It was nice to be reminded of Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll, which I used to listen to regularly but had forgotten about and haven’t heard in years. The lead singer (Brandon Flowers) sounds British, but I believe he’s American Mormon. Anyway, his voice sounds amazing. I read that this album is a combo of the new wave and post-punk genres, and that Brandon Flowers was inspired by The Strokes ‘Is This It?’ album (another classic). Glad this was my first introduction to this project.
