Machine Head by Deep Purple
May 09 2026

Smoke on the water is a classic song, fits really well into the whole album. Lazy's synth act as a standout, transitions from the original melody in Smoke on the Water, I think it really builds the whole soundscape into something more unique and more in line with what the band's sound is. Nothing particularly surprising other than the unique melodies for me, it's definitely fitting for the era, but I wouldn't view it as remarkable. Smoke on the water is a fun one though and it really shows how the band just plays around with its soundscape. Overall, pretty fun album, pretty ahead of its time and it just sounds pretty coherent as all the different instruments blend together. I like the melodies and guitar particularly but maybe that's because I am a guitarist myself. Rating right now, around 6.5.

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
May 10 2026

PEAK I LOVE DAVIS So What: I LOVE BILL EVANS AND COLTRANE HOLY MAMA Freddie Freeloader: So bouncy I like. Blue in Green: Beautiful trumpet and saxophone I could cry to it. So much expression coming from Coltrane, and it's shocking to see how well he pairs it with Bill Evans' piano. All Blue: Again Coltrane does wonderful under pressure. I think this is the first time we see Coltrane's style develop through the way he experiments in modal jazz. The minor scale that it starts off with brings so much tension, and Davis' trumpet with the bass is so uniquely dark. Flamenco Sketches: I think I'm gonna cry.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
May 11 2026

so much harmonica I don't like it. Visions of Johanna is fun, the harmonica isn't driving me insane in this one. Ok the harmonica is kinda growing on me. I Want You without Dylan's vocals sounds like some shit you'd hear in a kid's dental ad. Fourth Time Around is the only standout that I could find for a while, because the guitar pairs really nicely with his voice. It's kinda like the Beatles to me. Altogether, solid album, just not my thing. I don't like the harmonica all that much, I could definitely enjoy the album more if the harmonica was more subtle. Current rating: 2/5

Bone Machine by Tom Waits
May 12 2026

so weird I like. definitely a unique sound, and it's not trying to be something else. It lives up to its own specialties. Vocals are really interesting, the most experimental bit is the pairing of the vocals with the soundscape it is in. Makes my brain itch for something a bit more upbeat. Ok such a scream is kind of scratching that itch but not in a way I expected. It's oddly jazzy. But I kind of like it. Weird, too weird maybe... It's like if TOOL made blues. But they were just high ALL THE TIME instead of at just the conception of the album.

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair
May 13 2026

Really unique voice, I like the vocals particularly in Glory. It's very reminiscent of the era it was made in, the guitar is bolder, but nothing particularly stands out to me, except for the lyricism. Further I listen into the album, the more monotonous it sounds. The lyrics of course are quite poetic but nothing else really invokes any interest in me. It's a lot of the same stuff, with not technicality or expertise. Politically, very active and that I think makes this album significant, but it doesn't make it necessarily good. It's listenable and it's enjoyable but it's nothing more than that.
