The Real Thing by Faith No More

Great album. Mike Pattons debut with FNM. His singing style is unique here and from what I understand is only present on this album. While it can get a bit much, he lays into his real voice and vocal range when needed for a break to the listener. While the production is very much of its era, and the style is as well (metal and hard rock dominated the scene) the fresh take that FNM has on metal with a funk influenced sound is refreshing compared to their contemporaries. The first 3 songs off the album are all great examples of what the band has to offer, and the 4th track shows another, more period correct side ti what they can do. This album gets a regular listen from time to time already. Was happy to give it a full go.

Surprised by how much I like it. No real skips on here. The production is very of its era. Very sonically clear. The reverb is heavy, esp on the snare. Dont mind that, again very 80s. I get similarities between badmotorfinger and Epic by FAITH NO MORE in style and production, lyricallly not so much. I would say oddfellows was one of my less liked songs on the album. I like that the album generally sounded the same throughout, end of the world being the biggest departure in sound. Stipe's singing is classic REM here. Solid 4/5

3/5 Many of the songs sound the same, and musically are very uninteresting. Theres a couple strong songs on here. Sweetest devotion is very good and maybe my favorite vocal performance of hers. Her song writing is good and theyre very heartfelt lyrics. Million Years ago was another good song. Not as big as fan of hello as I thought i would be. Very run-on. Overall. Musically lacking but her voice helps make up for it.

Started off slow but I really liked it after home again started. I heard lots of motown influence, especially in the 1st half. She has a nice strong voice and listening to yhe album feels like home, despite this not being my normal music taste.

Very cool album. Lots of weird songs with it being a concept album but a few phenomenal songs. Very theatrical. I was dreading it being 75 minutes long but it didn't feel that long. Quite a nice journey.

Just a classic. Makes me feel very nostalgic for a time that I was just a bit too young for.
