This is probably my favorite country album now, not that i've listened to much country; in fact this is probably the first full country album ive ever listened to. That being said this is still a great album, the concept of a live performance in front of death row inmates is very intriguing to boot. Cash is able to handle this very well tho and seems in many ways to connect with the inmates on an emotional level, i dunno if thats because hes had similar experiences but hell he might as well do the way he sings. Thats another point, the only singer with better-what you might call- vocal intellegence for me would be George Micheal. Of course its a country album of its time tho and is rather stripped back i guess you would say, not much going on instrumentally that is. Still, a very worthwhile listen.
