1001 Albums Summary

I’d listened to a lot of this but I enjoyed the playfulness of ones I hadn’t heard like Octopus’s Garden. Last few songs on the record were my favourites. Less keen on the middle. Had to kick the urge to skip on I Want You- how much he wanted her also drove ME mad. Favs: Here Comes The Sun (classico), Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, The End, Her Majesty

I love the dramatic strings in Lonesome Tears and some of the similar uncanny that pervades the other tracks. Bit moany, groany on the whole though. End of the Day dragged like its namesake on a tough Monday. Round The Bend catalysed my Sunday scaries and almost triggered a psychotic glitch as I listened to it whilst reading about defamiliarisation and dreams in Living Things (I actually just had to skip half way through sorry). Oh gee, Already Dead is another bleak motherfucker. This Becky Boy needed to go to the pub with a few mates on a sunny Saturday and remember life is worth living. Okay, Beck listened and felt life’s rays on Sunday Sun but still got that dystopian gait- lighten up bud. Listening to this album felt like holding a plank. Best of the bunch: Side of the Road

The Flaming Lips I like this uncanny - delicious blend of hypnotic and lucid- the pulse of thinking you have drunk at 1am when you think you might have just figured life out but know you couldn’t for the life of you write it down or remember it the next day. Thinking of are You a Hypnotist? in particular when saying that. I like the presentist philosophy that pervades all of it too. I often look at long things and think they could have been better for being shorter: books, walks, relationships, and now The Yes Album joins the catalogue. Call the editor, take the shortcut, don’t wait until you hate them to call it, and trim the fat off the bone of the 8 minute hogs. Listened to Yours is No Disgrace as summer did in fact turn to winter in real time & my trainers let in the rain after a week long heatwave. Really enjoy the line “mother life hold firmly on to me”. The repetition has pissed me off - it’s the artists job to listen to the evolution of their music and pick the good bits- not the listeners. In short, no. Best of the bunch: Your Move (single version)
