1001 Albums Summary

Techno sound. Surprised by how different the songs sounded. I thought a lot of them were going to have a much more similar sound. Recognized a couple of the songs on here. I think I would like a few of those songs more if they hadn’t been played to death on social media. Pleasantly surprised here.

A couple flashes of standout tracks here but definitely a similar design on most of these songs which creates a bit of a boring effect on the B side of the album. I also don’t find her writing particularly moving. This is especially true on tracks that are supposed to be the “best” on the album. The writing feels immature. Perhaps it’s the love of Dylan in me that’s making me jaded but the lyrics lack depth. I think of a song like “North Country Blues” from him that SHOWS me something rather than simply telling me how to feel. The whole album sounds like a student who just read the communist manifesto for the first time. This is especially true of “Talking About a Revolution.” It’s too bad because I like the tune, but just can’t get past the lyrics. Ironically the track that seems to break the framework of the rest of the album the most “Mountain O’Things” is probably my favorite.
