Crazy first pull Took me way too long to realize that my speakers aren't quiet, and "Speak to Me" just starts really quietly "Breathe (In the Air)" is nostalgic for me. My mom likes to play it a lot. I'm now realizing I haven't properly listened through this album ever though, because that transition into - - "On the Run" is really clean. Love that. Kinda feeling cyberpunky with this one. Not really a song I'd add to a playlist, but cool as a transition/interlude. "Time" is another song that's nostalgic for me. Really pretty, something wistful about it. Love the choir in it too, makes it a lot grander than I think it would have been otherwise. Side note, I'm writing this while sitting at my computer. I'm sure this would hit way harder if I was on a road trip on a long summer day after some mildly life-changing event. Alas, it's only slightly warm outside and I have things to work on at home. "The Great Gig in the Sky" hnnnnggggg unnnhhhhh yesss mmmmhmmmm yummmmm. "Money" is fun. Just feels like good rock honestly. Maahhnaaaiiiiyayyyyyy. Ohhh I reallyyyy like "Us and Them". I haven't heard this one before, but the soft trumpet leading in is so pretty. This space between psychedelic, rock, and (very light) jazz is exactly the kind of- OHHHH WOAAHHH WOAAAHH IM ASCENDING WAAAAAAHHHH. If I heard that live I probably would start sobbing. "Any Colour You Like" is vibey... but for some reason it just feels like a watered down version of "Us and Them". As an ending track I'd probably like it a lot more, but we have two more tracks to go. "Brain Damage" drops the album name lets gooo. I enjoy this one a lot for a reason I can't place a finger on, especially leading into- -"Eclipse". This second half of the album I was far less familiar with, but I'm so impressed. It's hit after hit. Honestly, everything after "Money" feels like its own entity. I wish the rest of the album resonated in that way for me. This album is a 4/5 for me. I think it's objectively really good, and I would be happy to hear it played somewhere. I understand completely why it's considered a classic and the best album of all time for many people. I probably just wouldn't reach for it unless I'm in a super specific mood. Maybe I lack taste. That being said, there are definitely songs on here that are a 5/5 for me, like "Breathe", "Us and Them", and "Great Gig". Two of them aren't new to me though, so maybe I'm biased. I'll probably give the album another listen when I'm in a different mood, it might grow on me more. A final note, this album has been inciting existential dread in me this whole time. No idea what that's about.
