oof. I see here listed influences of post-punk and new wave. How could my favorite genres have led to this? I do not like it. synth sounds are pretty cool - but that bass on the first track made my ears bleed. I remember the first time I heard Mr. Brightside as one of the first times as a conscious human I was truly happy. I must have been in seventh grade. My parents sent me to a summer camp in another state for academically inclined youth. It was a life changing experience. It was where I found out what the "humanities" were - I instantly abandoned my childhood fascination with life science. The song had been out for ages at this point. One night there was a dance and I danced with the other kids, actually danced, unlike the dances at my middle school where I shrunk like a wallflower. They played this song last, and it was euphoric. The councilors had coreographed a special dance. During the song's final movment, we all ran into the center of the basketball court and reached for a glowstick a coucnellor held above our heads. I felt so understood, and so seen... I had found my people, and they are nerds. I made a steam account later that summer and my username is still 'brightcide.'
