1001 Albums Summary

Going in to this album I was never impressed with Neil Young. His music felt lackluster with no appeal really coming from turning his music on. Unfortunately, this is still true. To me it sounds like what I imagine it would sound like if getting your kidneys harvested could be turned into music.The music is definitely not horrible, just not what I would be looking to turn on if I had the time to sit and listen to an album. “A man needs a maid” was almost painful to have to sit through, while the piano and strings are very beautiful his vocals weren’t to say the least, definitely my low point of the album. I can’t say I have a high point for this album, I respect Neil Young’s creativity and the fact he seems to write all of his own songs. But none of these songs catch me in a certain way. Making myself pick a high point “Old Man” would definitely have to be the one, the lyrics tell a nice story about life and the need for love and connection. After one listen, I need to go listen to Déjà Vu in order to cleanse my palate.

Going into this album I didn’t know what to fully expect. Of course I know of Iggy Pop and his work, but I had never heard anything off of this album. I was quite suprised when I really did enjoy it. The music was well put together and espically the guitar was enjoyable to listen too. I would listen to this album more for sure!

Amazing album, it would be hard not to know “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me” as they are so prominent even in sports and music culture. The album overall is very well made, but it’s very repetitive and songs sound all the same with the effects and sounds. I very quickly noticed that at some points there is a lot going on in the songs all at once. For example with “Smile Like You Mean It” there’s a specific part where it sounds like a barrage of synths just overlapping each other. Low point for me personally would be “Andy, You’re a Star” as until the ending, the song is very repetitive and a little boring. Mr. Brightside is the high point, on an album where the high is high and the lows are lower. I’ve came to the final verdict that if they would just GET RID OF THESE PAINFUL SYNTHS/ELECTRONIC JUMBLES this album would be a lot more fun to listen to. As a debut album nevertheless, I respect the music and would definitely say this is an album you must listen to at least once to experience it.

Very groovy and sounds great! Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys some classic soul music.
